OVERVIEW

Our experience started in 1992, after Principal Peter A. Fillat III, AIA, LEED AP, decided to open his own studio where he could more intimately explore design. The staff has cumulative experience of over 100 years. We are a Maryland state certified minority owned business enterprise (MBE).  At Peter Fillat Architects our diversity is a great strength allowing us to approach design problems in a unique manner.  Our team is comprised of top-caliber design and project management professionals with accomplished career histories across a broad spectrum of projects of nearly every type and scope – from public to private, large-scale to small-scale, hospitality to urban mixed-use, corporate to retail, residential to institutional.  

Our goal is to design in harmony with the environment and to create lasting works of architecture. Our design methodology assures our clients lasting works of architecture that delight the people they serve, that are respectful of the environment, and that create the ultimate unity between form, function and spirit.

The types of projects we design widely vary.  In the early years, the studio worked on a variety of projects including custom residential and restaurants, while expanding its client base and diversifying its portfolio.  The studio has continued to grow over the past 17 years, providing a full range of architectural services for urban, mixed-use development, hospitality, multi-family residential, adaptive re-use, retail, and office projects.  

Architecture

Successful building solutions commence with strong foundations formed by understanding our clients' project vision, goals, expectations, budget and priorities.  Our design approach is unique to each project and reflects client needs. 

Interiors

Appropriate interior environments are essential to efficiency, growth, productivity and creativity. Interior design creates the look and feel of spaces, conveys vision and the intent of the owner and user. 

Urban Design

Our experience working in urban centers has presented us with multiple opportunities to work with civic organizations in shaping our responses to design challenges.  Whether it is a governmental design review panel, a small community association, or a historical trust group, PFA welcomes constructive dialogue during the development process.  We recognize the importance of partnership with local organizations in the creation of meaningful spaces and places.   Peter Fillat Architects has a strong history of working to promote strong urban design principles in each of the projects in which we have been involved. The bulk of Peter Fillat Architects’ work has been in urban environments and an important component of each work has been finding the most effective method of interacting with the fabric that each building is a part of. In addition, Peter Fillat Architects has developed several overall urban design strategies for projects. 

Sustainability

Peter Fillat Architects design methods and use of appropriate materials has been an integral part of the firm's history. We believe that sustainable design can help create a sustainable way of living in the community.  We help people create more sustainable communities and landscapes. The notion that a building should respect and enhance its natural environment has always been a part of our design philosophy.

Firm Organization

Peter A Fillat III, AIA, LEED AP has oversight over all aspects of the firm’s work.  Two Associate Principals oversee Design, Project Management & Technical Building Sciences, respectively. Project Teams are organized on a project-by-project basis around a Project Manager, based on project-type experience.
