The project is a new museum currently proposed to be built on a site adjacent to the Maryland Science Center in downtown Baltimore. The museum will be a multi level structure which will house interactive exhibits, display galleries and sculptures on the human brain. The organization of the spaces and structure will simulate the anatomy of the brain including circulation patterns and spatial configurations. The structure will also include café space, book store/gift shop, restrooms, administrative offices and curatorial space along with some conference spaces and public gathering areas. The building will be designed to meet energy efficiency standards.

This project is being developed with the Brain Discovery Center whose Acting Chairman is Dr. Majid Fotuhi, MD, PhD. Mr. Fotuhi is the Chairman of the Neurology Institute for Brain Health and Fitness, and an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

The project consists of an addition and renovations to the Dulles Hyatt, creating an efficient, flexible EMC facility. A 18,600 square foot addition houses a 10,000 square foot ballroom while existing interior spaces were renovated to create new meeting rooms and support spaces.

The porte cochere was reconstructed, and the reception/registration desks were relocated, with check-in pods located nearby. The existing ballroom was refreshed, and restrooms were renovated & expanded to accommodate the new square footage. Landscaping and a green roof were incorporated to help with storm water management.

The Dulles Hyatt EMC is LEED Silver certified.

Qualified for a LEED Gold rating, this adaptive reuse project created a high performance three story urban loft-style office building within the historic shell of an 80 year old 24,000 square foot cabinet factory. Beneath the new topping slabs hydronic piping heats and cools the open plan spaces. On the roof a 28-panel solar array provides energy to heat the water in the cooler months. A geothermal heat pump provides cool water as well as heated water when solar energy is unavailable. Existing materials such as masonry bearing walls and timber floor framing were left in place and exposed while new cleaning techniques and applied finishes were selected on the basis of sustainable attributes.

Bought in the 1850s by the First Presbyterian Church as a designated place of worship for black members of its congregation, it has since then gone through several conversions and is today a 13-condo residential building after being redesigned by PFA. Its name “The Revels” is commemorative of one of its early pastors, Hiram Rhodes Revels, who also went on after the Civil War to become the first African American senator in the United States. In addition to adding residential units on the roof of the existing structure, PFA has succeeded in preserving some of the original first floor decor such as ornamental plaster and ceiling details, though many of the original aesthetic elements had been destroyed prior to this conversion.

Bringing a piece of urban sophistication to the suburbs, the new CityStay Hotels prototype is designed to satisfied those travelers who yearn for the coolness factor. This 90 room boutique hotel was recognized at the 2007 Wave of the Future awards program held at the Hospitality Design Magazine Boutique Hotel Show. Reminiscent of an urban skyline the hotel features an open lobby/bar scene and guestrooms with wood floors. A series of reflecting pools are dynamically lit and flow from the lobby to the outside pool garden environment. Designed to meet the market demand for mixed use developments, the room module stacks over garage automobile layouts without transferring structural requirements.
