The Bear Creek Mountain Resort was designed to emulate the hilly context of the site, as well as to honor the building tradition of the indigenous Shakers. Prior to this expansion, the site was a day-facility with locker rooms and a small restaurant only. The resort now includes 53 hotel rooms that accommodate overnight guests, a 5,000 SF banquet hall/ballroom, a grand lodge, a new family-dining restaurant and food court. The most elegant aspect of the lodge is the exterior ski plaza and interior ski lobby. Carefully planned to facilitate ease of passage, the space is organized with equipment rental, locker rooms, ski school offices and a day-care facility and opens up to the outdoor ski-in plaza adjacent to the mountain. Construction took place between ski seasons as to minimize economic impacts on the ski area’s busiest time of year.
