FILLAT + Architecture was commissioned to re-envision the 50’s era Liberty Marina as a destination Eco Resort. The current property has been unimproved since it opened in 1957. The redevelopment will make the site a flagship project for resiliency and sustainably redevelop the water’s edge of the South River and the Chesapeake Bay. Asphalt lots will be replaced with bioswales, pervious surfaces, and native landscaping.  The building will have solar panels for electricity and geothermal heating and cooling. Designed to target net zero upon completion, the Resort will start with PassiveHaus construction and be augmented with regenerative and sustainable design features.

On the fun side the Resort will have three dining venues, a rooftop bar and a multipurpose pool. A large green open space will replace a surface parking lot at the waters edge which will be open to the public. A kayak put-in will accompany a water sport rental facility creating a place for open community waterfront access. The resort will also have a 9,000 SF. Ballroom for weddings and meetings. The marina will continue to offer 270 slips for transient and resort guests to arrive by sea.
