800 Washington Ave, St. Louis, MO
The Renaissance Grand in downtown St. Louis, Missouri combines the renovation of the former Statler Hotel with a new building to form a unified 916-room, full-service Convention Center Headquarter Hotel. The project includes a new, 60,000 square foot Conference Center with 18,000 square foot and 12,000 square foot ballrooms, and is adjacent to an 800-space parking garage. The hotel is located across the street from the St. Louis Convention Center.
The new 24-story addition was constructed adjacent to the abandoned historic Statler Hotel, originally constructed in 1917, which was renovated and incorporated into the new hotel plan. The Statler’s beautiful ground-floor lobby was restored to become the Specialty Restaurant for the hotel and the spectacular roof top ballroom was renovated and put back in service. Additionally the “Noonday Club” (previously a men’s-only bar) was restored and incorporated into the ground-floor lobby spaces. The project received Federal and State Historic Tax Credits.
In addition to the Specialty Restaurant, the hotel has a three meal restaurant, coffee shop, fitness center, business center, and concierge services. The public spaces are organized around a multi-level atrium, the lowest level of which connects under an adjacent street to the conference center building.
The design of the new guestroom tower is derived from the proportions and datums of the historic hotel allowing the hotel to become a unified whole. The tower is situated to offer guests spectacular views of the Mississippi River and the Gateway Arch. The rooftop pavilions of the new structure compliment the rooftop loggia on the Statler. The redevelopment has reestablished the Renaissance Grand as a beacon of the hospitality industry for St. Louis with its careful restoration of its beautiful neoclassical architecture and its respectful and inspiring new addition.
